One disaster that won’t befall any performers in Edinburgh this year is Jonathan Miller.
The seemingly permanently grumpy director, who made his name in Edinburgh in 1960 as part of Beyond the Fringe, has been mouthing off to The Independent, saying he’s “not the least bit interested in the fringe.”
But worse than that, he’s not even interested in the theatre. A bit of a set-back, one would have thought, for someone who works in the business.
“I’m not interested in theatre, I never was,” he continues. “I don’t want to go to the West End; I hate travelling, I prefer to be at home with my grandchildren, and just go to Marks & Spencer.”
Let’s hope something was lost in the retelling.
