Meanwhile, at the Latitude Festival in Suffolk, Keith Allen made a surprise appearance in the Lyric Hammersmith and Filter’s remixed production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The performer began the show in the part of Bottom, before storming off stage in a huff after being introduced to the audience by a fellow cast member as “TV personality” Keith Allen. “Why don’t you just call me Lily Allen’s dad?” raged Keith before stomping out of the theatre tent.
Clearly this was something of a problem - losing one of the lead actors moments before the performance started - but a call was put out to the audience asking “Are there any actors in the house?” and, as luck would have it, Mark Benton - him off the Nationwide adverts - was able to step forward and take on the role at the last moment.
Of course, it was all a stitch up, but kudos to Lily Allen’s dad for letting himself be sent up in such a way.
