Chit Chat: The Jackson distraction

The other notable passing of the last few weeks - well, probably the decade, really - has, of course, been Michael Jackson.

Jackson was a huge fan of Oliver! - and was in fact a real-life friend with the performer who played the young boy in the famous 1968 film version, Mark Lester. When in London, he never passed up an opportunity to see the live show.

Staff working on the Palladium production of the show back in the mid-nineties recalled that the night he attended, Jackson was practically the only member of the audience to pay any attention to what was going on on-stage.

Everyone else was too busy watching him and his companions in their box.
