The organisation has recently appointed Simon Callow at its new ambassador. A wonderful appointment, I’m sure, but you are left wondering about his suitability for the post after LMN inform you that he has been chosen because “as well as being famous for acting, directing and writing, Simon has ….”

See if you can guess what comes next. A secret history as a concert pianist? Always wanted to live a double life as a busker? The gift of perfect pitch.

Nope. “… a deep belief in the uplifting power of music.”

That’s a bit like appointing Seb Coe as the new arts council chair and saying “As well as being famous as a middle distance runner, politician and chair of London 2012, Seb thinks the arts are a good thing.”
