Chit Chat - Phantom menace

Published Monday 14 April 2008 at 10:50 by Tabard

Meanwhile, Tabard was pondering on the nature of all things offensive and for some reason Ben Elton popped into our minds.

The other week, he was sounding off about how the BBC was too “scared” to broadcast jokes about Islam, in case it caused offence and provoked extremists . It has also just come out - actually, it was revealed by The Stage last week - that Elton has penned the book for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera sequel.

Presumably he has taken the opportunity to slip in a few Islamic gags while he’s been at it.

Perhaps in fact, the Phantom’s traditional cape and mask combo will simply be replaced with a burka. That, after all, would be hilarious.

Still at least he won’t be running into censorship problems - unless of course, ALW decides to team up with the Beeb to cast the show on TV.

Oh dear, Ben, maybe time to reach for the delete button.
