Chit Chat - Students of strife

Published Monday 14 April 2008 at 10:50 by Tabard

Diana The Musical. It was never going to be popular with the chattering classes.

No need to worry though, it’s not coming to the West End any time soon, but is premiering at Brighton University, where one of the students came up with the idea - surprise, surprise.

Naturally, it’s caused a bit of uproar, especially as the promotional material relating to the show features a skeletal princess wearing a tiara.

According to the BBC, Margaret Funnell from Brighton’s Diana Circle (lovely that one of those exists) told them: “I think this is a distasteful, disgusting thing really, and to joke about the accident happening in the tunnel - I don’t know what the world’s coming to.”

Peter Schaufuss has already brought us a ballet based upon the late princess’ life. But this offering - which features Diana living in Mexico with other dead celebrities - sounds to Tabard like a real case of car-crash theatre.

Ahem. Apologies for that.

But, looking on the bright side, at least they are guaranteed a review from the Daily Express
