Leeds’ recently refurbished Grand Theatre has apparently gone to great lengths in a bid to be crowned champion of The Stage’s survey to discover the UK’s comfiest theatre seat.
As part of the venue’s £31.5 million revamp, the Grand has installed new seating using a substance called ‘memory foam’, which was orginally created by NASA for astronauts coping with the huge forces exerted on their bodies during space missions. The substance is sensitive to human body heat and adjusts to both weight and temperature.
Sounds like overkill to us but at least the next time a show really takes off at the Grand, its patrons can be safe in the knowlegde they’ll have a comfy ride.
