One much-loved actress who should certainly have written a memoir was the late Stella Moray, star of many West End musicals and TV sitcoms.
More than 100 showbiz fans and friends, including Peter Egan, Sheila Mathews and Norma Dunbar, attended her funeral last week which proved to be a right old knees-up. “The humanist service started with a recording of Stella singing Sing Hallelujah! which was absolutely sensational and was greeted by a storm of cheers,” said actor Michael Kilgarriff, who also attended the bash. “Sheila Hancock gave an address in which she spoke of being in a show more than 40 years ago with Stella and how four woman in the show had met up regularly ever since. At one meeting Sheila and Stella went through a Spotlight to see how many men had enjoyed their favours. Stella’s score was considerably higher than Sheila’s.”
