Chit Chat - It’s a dog’s life

Published Friday 4 August 2006 at 16:55

Sticking with Edinburgh and the issue of naming. It’s interesting to note that this year, following the disappearance of the Perrier Awards, which have been retitled with the insanely catchy sobriquet the if.comeddies, a couple of imitators have popped up in their stead.

First there are the Terrier Awards, launched by C Venues to honour “shows that hang on with dogged tenacity… Shows across the Fringe that have proved their strength through struggle, destitution, one star reviews - and any other disheartening disadvantages that we learn about - will be rewarded with a special chocolate dog that comes with a pedigree from C venues.” So that’s an award for people who don’t get awards then.

Next in line and equally inventive in its appropriation of the Perrier title, are the Perrier Jouet Awards, given out by Neil and Christine Hamilton as part of their show at the Pleasance Queen Dome. Apparently it aims to “inject a little more style and a lot more alcohol” into the Perrier mould and will be given out daily during their show. I can hardly wait.
