Chit chat - Beer fit for the gods

A glass of wine with your Wagner or a gin and tonic with your Gilbert and Sullivan seems quite natural, but one doesn’t readily think of a pint of beer as an appropriate accompaniment to opera.

However, Brigantes Bar in York is trying to change all that. In order to raise money for the Leeds Grand - the home of Opera North - it is selling a special ale from York Brewery called Siegfried’s Sword named after the character in the Ring Cycle. So if you fancy a basso-profundo and a bloody good belch, you know where to go. I’m sure the ROH wouldn’t approve…
