Dancing donkeys

Published Monday 24 November 2008 at 16:45

Entity, Random Dance’s new touring show - headed by Royal Ballet choreographer Wayne McGregor - features three large mechanical set-pieces designed and manufactured by Litestructures.

Using Litestructures’ LiteTower base and truss masts, combined with a custom multilink mechanical setup, the designers have created what are effectively large aluminium nodding donkeys, like those seen in oil drilling operations. Standing at a maximum overall height of nearly seven metres and each capable of lifting a 10m wide x two metres high wooden wing weighing nearly 100kg, the pieces can be built in just a few hours.
