Palace improvements

The Victoria Palace, home of the long-running, successful Billy Elliot production, has submitted an application to Westminster City Council for permission to make “significant” improvements within the existing theatre, to build a new and extended stage house, incorporating a six-metre strip of land at the rear of the stage, and to provide two lifts adjacent to the FOH facilities.

The proposals follow what have been described as “very constructive discussions and consultations with Westminster City Council planning and conservation officers, and with English Heritage and Theatres Trust officers”.

Implementation of the scheme, if approved, cannot, however, take place for several years, so ensuring that the resident production can continue its run.

Delay is also due to agreements being necessary with neighbourhood property owner Land Securities and with London Underground, plans in turn being currently discussed to improve Victoria Underground and the surrounding concourse.
