There are several moments in this monologue where it seems like the plausibility of the entire piece might be at risk, but it is always miraculously rescued by a combination of wit and understated originality. Typically this is a show about the middle-age crisis. Interestingly, it concerns a maverick university administrator named Bev, who secretly wishes to be a stand up comedian. Although at first it looks like her husband is on the brink of an extra-marital affair with her best friend, it’s Bev who’ll end up having all the naughty fun. And contrary to appearances even further, she does care, only she will find her own way of dealing with it - and it will make for a truly cracking finale.
Seasoned comedy actress Joanna Swain and observant writer Angela Truby have created a show which can teach a thing or two not only to the unhappy 40-somethings but also to many an aspiring comedian. Displaying not only an outstanding technique in comic timing and delivery, this piece actually pinpoints where the best and the most effective comedy essentially comes from - and it has a lot to do with being on the line.
Production information can change over the run of the show.
