Josie Long receives third Edinburgh comedy award nomination

Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards has revealed the shortlist for this year’s best comedy show and best newcomer categories, which includes a repeat nomination for Josie Long.

Long, who has received nominations twice before, has been recognised this year for her show Romance and Adventure in the main award category.

Other nominees include Australian comedian Claudia O’Doherty for her show The Telescope, rapper and comedian Doctor Brown for his performance entitled Befrdfgth and James Acaster for his show Prompt.

Joining them is sketch troupe Pappy’s for its Last Show Ever! performance and Canadian comedian Tony Law for his Maximum Nonsense show.

Meanwhile, the best newcomer nominations include the shows Daniel Simonsen – Champions, David Trent – Spontaneous Comedian, Discover Ben Target, Joe Lycett: Some Lycett Hot and Sam Fletcher – Good on Paper.

This is the 32nd comedy awards, formerly known as the Perrier Comedy Awards, which have recently crowned Adam Riches and Russell Kane as winners of the best comedy show category.

A cash prize of £10,000 will be given to the best comedy show winner and £5,000 to the best newcomer. There will also be a panel prize of £5,000 and all winners will be announced on August 25.

Nica Burns, producer of the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards, said: “The nominees sum up an extraordinarily inventive year for comedy at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The shows demonstrate all the comedic art forms – standup, mime, sketch and multi-media experimentation. The performers are all immensely charismatic and often thought-provoking whilst being extremely funny. Two excellent nomination lists.”
