Daniel Kitson wins sixth Fringe First

Daniel Kitson has won his sixth ever Fringe First, for his solo performance of As of 1.52pm GMT on Friday April 27th 2012, This Show Has No Title at the Traverse.

The Scotsman Fringe Firsts, now in their 39th year, recognise “outstanding new writing premiered on the Fringe” and Kitson was praised for his “jokey, intimate, passionate, and minutely perceptive” show. He first won in 2005 then every year between 2007 and 2010.

The award brings the Travese’s own haul of Fringe Firsts this year to four, having won two last week. The Theatre Uncut series of ten-minute dramas, compiled by Hannah Price and Emma Callendar and inspired by last year’s protests against public spending cuts, has also been recognised.

Assembly also receiving two awards this week. Mies Julie, Baxter Theatre of Cape Town’s Strindberg adaptation, added to last week’s Herald Angel. Also recognised at Assembly is Educating Ronnie, Joy Douglas’s autobiographical monologue about a Ugandan boy who asks his British friend to give him money for school, and the complications that ensue.

The Pleasance added to last week’s brace of awards with a nod for Dirty Great Love Story. This week’s final Fringe First went to Stellar Quines production of The List, starring Maureen Beattie, which is at Summerhall.
