BBC hires former ITV Studios comedy executive

Saurabh Kakkar, former creative director of comedy at ITV Studios, is joining the BBC’s comedy department as an executive producer.

During his time with ITV, which he left in July this year, Kakkar developed and produced shows such as Dirk Gently and White Van Man.

Prior to working for ITV Studios, he was a producer for Granada Television.

At the BBC, he will be part of the team delivering comedy for TV, radio and online.

BBC head of comedy Mark Freeland said: “We’ve been fortunate enough to have a great few years. But to continue that and to do things better and always in an original way, it’s exciting to have Saurabh coming in with his expertise, new ideas and passion for comedy.”
