Sherlock and Great Expectations big winners at BAFTA Craft Awards

BBC dramas Great Expectations and Sherlock have each won three prizes at this year’s British Academy Television Craft Awards.

Sherlock won for its editing and sound, with Steven Moffat winning the writing award for his work on the series. Moffat beat Neil McKay, who penned Appropriate Adult, Abi Morgan, who wrote Birdsong, and Jack Thorne, who was nominated for The Fades

At tonight’s ceremony, hosted by Alan Davies, Great Expectations won for its photography and lighting, its production design and for its visual effects.

Meanwhile, Hugo Blick won the director prize for The Shadow Line, beating Julian Jarrold, who was nominated for Appropriate Adult, John Alexander, who was up for Exile, and Yann Demange, who was nominated for Top Boy.

Although it lost out in the director category, Top Boy won elsewhere, with Brian Eno winning a BAFTA in the original music section. Eno was previously nominated for a BAFTA in 1994.

The break-through talent award was won by Appropriate Adult co-producer, Kwadjo Dajan, while Jacqueline Fowler won the make-up and hair design award for The Crimson Petal and The White.

Charlotte Walter won the costume design prize for her work on Birdsong.

In the entertainment craft team category, Derren Brown The Experiments, Top Gear and The X Factor were all beaten to the award by the team behind The Cube, which won for the second year running.
