Neil McKay’s RIP Boy receives nomination for Sony Awards

RIP Boy, the BBC Radio 4 drama made by Red Production Company and written by Neil McKay, has been nominated for best drama at this year’s Sony Radio Academy Awards.

McKay’s drama is up against Every Child Matters, by Christopher Reason, The Recordist, by Sean Grundy, and David Hare’s Murder in Samarkand, which were all broadcast on Radio 4.In For a Penny, which was aired on BBC Radio Scotland, completes the drama nominees list.

The nominations for best comedy include Radio 4′s Just a Minute and Radio 2′s Rhod Gilbert’s Bulging Barrel of Laughs.

Both are up against Radio 2′s The Jason Byrne Show and the Radio 4 ahows The Unbelievable Truth and Tom Wrigglesworth’s Open Letter to Richard Branson.

Meanwhile, Chris Moyles, Frank Skinner, Jarvis Cocker, Ronnie Wood and Scott Mills will all go head to head to be named music radio personality of the year, while Radio 4, Radio 3 and Talk Sport will compete to be crowned station of the year.

The awards will be held on May 9 at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
